Weather Unit
This experiment is excellent for the study of a weather unit. The most common types of weather most children know about are thunderstorms and tornados. During the unit, I exposed the students to each type of weather. We watched videos of thunderstorms and blizzards. I also made certain to include all the books I could find on weather.
For the experiment, you need two plastic 2-liter soda bottles, some water, and some glitter.
Take the labels off the bottles; punch a pea size hole in both lids. Glue the lids together, fill one bottle with water and add the glitter.
Now screw the lids on the bottle with water. Remember they are glued together; so be careful.
Now screw the empty bottle on top. Start swirling the bottles in a circle, one hand on the bottom bottle and the other hand on top.
Now very carefully turn the bottles over where the bottle with water is on top, hold them steady and listen to the rush as the glitter really shows off the tornado.
